You maybe in a dilemma choosing the appropriate theme for the nursery you are so excitedly planning for the new little man who is arriving. If you have not started decorating room than you chose a set of bedding and decorate the room with the theme of the bedding. If you are at a loss regarding the theme to use for the bedding, following are some possibilities.

Typically, boys prefer bold colors, so this can be a good place to begin when buying bedding for your child. Bold colors have become chic rather than gaudy. One such set is made by Trend Lab. It has a chocolate and navy coloring and is called Prep School Blue crib bedding. It contains a mixture of caramel , chocolate, blue, and white.

Animal themes are famous among both boys as well as girls, but the actual choice of animals varies according to the gender. Animal theme preferences differ between the genders as girls like cute, cuddly things while the boys prefer larger wild animals. A theme with farm animals or a Noah’s Ark theme is wonderful for a young boy, if you need a theme with long life, consider a jungle theme.

Young boys will become enamored with cowboys at some point. Cowboys make a wild and fun option for a theme. Fabrics like denim, leather, ultra suede and plaid are generally used for cowboy themes which generally imparts the set a genuine look. As well, you will  frequently notice sheriff’s stars, horses, and wagons notably  depicted  in these baby crib sets. In cowboy themes fleece and flannel are favorite fabrics for baby blankets.

A favorite pastime of many men is sports – and this does not exclude little boys. Team specific, as per mom’s or dad’s choice, are also available. Some can be more specific, with bedding sets that feature solely baseball, football, and soccer images. A general sports theme may be the right preference for your son to enjoy in his growing years, as you are unaware of his possible choice of team or sports as he grows in years.

If your intention is to have more than one child, there is another way to buy infant bedding. Your choices are to either pick a theme that will grow with one child or go with a more neutral theme which can be used over and over for each subsequent baby. In this manner each child would be able to select a room theme of their own choice when they get to the toddler years and begin to have choices. If you are seeking neutral gender bedding for your little boy, you can always find exciting geometric patterns, alphabet themes and numbers, as well as popular cartoon characters like Winnie the Pooh.

You should give it some careful consideration if you’re planning to buy baby boy bedding. The frilly bedding was perfect when your boy was a newborn, but may turn out to be inappropriate if you intend to make use of the same crib bedding during his toddler or preschool years. Most toddler beds use standard sized crib mattresses, so a great solution for parents that are thinking ahead are 3-in-1 cribs that convert to toddler beds.

Cloth diapers (also known as reusable nappies, washable nappies and cloth nappies) are much easier to use than you think. Here are some common questions asked by parents about using cloth diapers.

What do I do at change time?

If the diaper is wet, all you need to do is take it off, throw the liner away (if disposable) and place the diaper with the reusable liner in your diaper bucket instead of in the bin.

If the diaper is dirty, the poo can be thrown away down the loo (far more hygienic than putting it in the dustbin) and the diaper placed in the bucket.

Liquid poo can be washed off by holding the diaper under the flush of the loo before being dealt with in your normal way.

Are they difficult to put on?

No, not at all.All-in-ones are the easiest to use and need no folding - just put them on just as you would a disposable.Flat or terry diapers do still need to be folded but the fantastic invention of the Nappi Nippa means that pins are not needed.

Will our house smell?

Only if you leave lots of dirty diapers hanging around for days.Just think about how your bin smells with a couple day’s worth of dirty disposable diapers in it, with real diapers, solids are flushed down the lavatory immediately, so you won’t have from this problem. If you like, you can put a few drops of essential oil on a cloth that is kept on the top of the bucket.

Will I have lots more washing to do?

All families have lots of washing, so to include a few diapers isn’t really that much extra work. When you are ready to do your usual wash, remove the diapers from the bucket and put them in the washing machine, it is as simple as that.

Putting diapers into a modern machine with its fast spin is so much easier than having to put them through the twin tub and mangle that your mother may have used.

Diapers are washed at 60c and some people even use 40c with the odd hot wash to keep the stains at bay.

The easiest way to dry diapers is on the line with the rest of your washed clothing (or on a radiator during the winter) but I to fluff them up by putting them in the dryer for 10 mins with bath towels after taking them off the washing line.

Will I get dirty putting them in the washing machine?

No.The poo will have been gotten rid of, so you are only dealing with a little wee.If you wet pail (see below) you can use a mesh type bag to store the diapers in, so you just need to pick that up and put it in the machine.Dry pailing is even easier to do.

What is ‘pailing’?

Basically, storing used diapers in a bucket.Wet pailing means putting the diapers into a solution of water and diaper soak or similar or just water on its own.

Dry pailing is easy - simply put the used diaper into the bucket and put the lid back on.

Won’t all the washing powders harm the environment?

Yes and no. Yes to the extent that all detergents cause some damage (this can be limited by using non-bio or eco-friendly products) but no to the extent that this is still far better than using disposable diapers.

Will I be changing diapers more often?

Not especially.Guidelines state that you should change a baby’s diaper every 4 hours during the day (more often for new borns), so this is still the same.

Won’t my baby get diaper rash?

Diaper rash happens when bacteria in the poo reacts to the ammonia in wee.The usual way to prevent diaper rash is to change frequently (every 4 hours or so) and let fresh air to get to the diaper area.

The lock away moisture core in disposable diapers makes parents change less often and their very design stops air from circulating. Most real diapers are breathable, allowing air to circulate, resulting in a healthier butt.

What if I go out for the day?

Lots of parents use real diapers even when they go out and just take a slightly bigger bag with them. Others have a stock of eco-disposables to use for day trips or when they go on holiday.

What about overnight?

Once again, some parents use eco-disposables overnight or place a booster pad inside the cloth diaper.

Will they leak?

Not if they fit as they should.A well fitting reusable diaper with wrap if appropriate is no more leaky than a disposable. We would advise that you try a few samples to make sure you buy the right diaper for your baby.
